Matthew Yogus
Class Year

I did most of my growing up in the Atlanta area, and moved to Statesboro, GA, in 2000. I didn’t think much about the Faith until after college. After graduation from Georgia Southern University, I served as a sports writer and eventually Sports Editor of the Statesboro Herald. At that point I knew I was lacking something, and I found what I was looking for in the Eucharist in 2008.

My relationship with Christ sustained me but I felt something was lacking in my life again, so in 2014 I moved to Valdosta, GA, to work for Vianney Vocations, a company whose primary mission is helping diocesan vocation offices encourage young people to consider vocations to the priesthood and religious life. After 10 great years of vocations work, my former pastor and current vocation director Fr. Brett Brannen asked me, “Isn’t it about time you discerned your vocation?” That was the question I needed to hear in July of 2024, and after visiting Pope St. John XXIII National Seminary I knew what my next step needed to be. I turned in my application to begin priestly formation in 2025 and enrolled at PSJS.
