Every year of the fall semester, PSJS seminarians and spiritual directors take time away from academics and participate in a week-long retreat. Taking this time allows the men to slow down after the hectic pace at the start of a new academic year. It helps the men to center their priorities and to hear God more clearly; it is a time to reflect on their paths and strengthen their resolve to serve God and the people of His Church. It is good – and at times emboldening - to experience and to be the quiet, to listen. It is also a great time for fellowship among the men. At the conclusion of the week, the seminarians come back to the seminary refreshed but also grounded and rooted in their commitment to study the ways of the Church and prepare with a renewed focus for their studies ahead.
This year the Class of 2018 was in Biddeford, ME at the Marie Joseph Spiritual Center with Fr. David Michael, Pastor of St. Joseph Parish in Needham, MA directing the retreat. The Classes of 2019 and 2020 were on Enders Island in Mystic, CT where Fr. Bill Kelly of St. Paul Parish in Cambridge, MA directed this retreat. Lastly, the class of 2021 was in Duxbury, MA at Miramar Retreat Center where Fr. Tom Walsh from Saint Christine Parish in Marshfield was the director.
